As you may already be aware, a third of the UK’s food ends up in landfill. Your commitment to regular collections means that less food will have ended up in these landfills. Along with providing a much-needed service to the community, you have also helped to off-set the damages food waste has on the environment.
In the last 30 days you have collected 100% of the surplus food offers that you have received. While there are many provisions in place to reduce food waste, the UK produces the highest amount of food waste in Europe. The UK throws away around 9.5 million tonnes of food waste in a single year –
even though 8.4 million people in the UK are in food poverty.
